I remember so well going with my parents to hear the symphony. It seemed like I had to sit still forever. I remember the agony of having to be quiet, sit with hands folded, being shushed and told to listen. I remember, too, the night my mom woke me up after I had gone to bed and planted me in front of our black and white TV. She told me to watch Isaac Stern, with bow hairs sprung everywhere, his fingers a blur, playing with a passion that even a nine-year-old could appreciate. Now as an adult, I look forward to every concert, anticipating the familiar melodies of my childhood and acquiring new favorites.
