Doug Divelbiss

Name (yours and spouse) Doug and Dena Divelbiss

Occupation – Manager of Technical Accounting for ConocoPhillips since 1993

Grew up in Medford, Oklahoma. Went to Oklahoma State and received Bachelor's in Accounting in 1979 and a Masters of Accounting in 1980. Passed the CPA exam on first try in 1980. Auditor with Ernst & Young's Tulsa office for 13 years (including a two-year assignment in E&Y's National Office in New York City in 1989-1991). Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville was a major audit client of mine from 1985-1993. In 1993, I accepted Phillips' offer to me to become Accounting Policy Manager.

Raised five children in Bartlesville, starting in 1985. All of our children were/are excellent musicians in the Bartlesville Public School band program (two clarinets, two percussionists, and one French horn). My wife and I have been very active members in the Bartlesville Band and Orchestra Booster Club since 1996, having served in almost all officer and committee positions over the years. When our youngest child graduates from high school in 2014, we probably will have set some type of record for the longest continuous membership in the booster club.

I was elected to the Bartlesville Public Schools Board of Education in 2006 and currently am serving as its Vice-President. Due to my accounting background, my area of emphasis in Board committee assignments are those dealing with financial matters.

I started playing French horn in the Medford Public School system in the 5th grade and really have never stopped keeping up my lip for the next forty years. During high school, I played as a member of the Enid-Phillips Symphony Orchestra and fell in love with the orchestral repertoire for the horn. While in college at OSU, I played in every organization that could use a horn, including even the OSU Jazz Band one year. I also marched during the summers of 1975-1978 in the Valiant Knights Drum and Bugle Corps out of Enid. That is where I met my wife, Dena, who is from Enid and was a member of the color guard.

Other than the two years when I was on special assignment in New York City, I have played as member of the Bartlesville Symphony Orchestra horn section for every season since the fall of 1985. I was principal horn from 1985-1989, third/fourth horn from 1991-2000, and principal horn again since 2000. .

Length of service to the BSO Board? After being a playing member for several years, I was asked to serve as a Board member starting in 2000..

Responsibilities you have had regarding the BSO – I was Secretary from 2000-2002 and have served as Treasurer since 2002. I am also a member of the Board of the Bartlesville Symphony Orchestra Foundation..

Why you volunteered to be on the Board I love the BSO for the part of its mission that gives a quality amateur musician like me the opportunity to perform great orchestral music for appreciative audiences. Because of that love, when I was asked to serve in 2000 I accepted because I felt I needed to give the BSO even more of my time and utilize my financial skills to help the BSO meet its long-term goals and objectives in a fiscally sound manner.
